Apollo Client Port

Nick | Beta | Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

I quickly ported the current client build to Apollo for those who wish to test it out. This is a direct port, only a few lines of code were changed for Apollo support, so this build does not use any of the features that Apollo provides over Flex. For those who don’t know, Apollo is a new technology from Adobe which blurs the line between web and local applications and allows us to bring Sagubooru natively to the desktop as a true application.

Apollo is still in alpha - Use at your own risk
Directory contains both the Apollo runtime (Windows) and a working copy of the Sagubooru Application (.air)

Note: Apollo is currently available only for Windows and OSX - I will not put forth any focus on Apollo until a Linux runtime is released. The OSX runtime is available at http://labs.adobe.com

  1. I’m getting an error: "This application could not be installed or launched (AIR file C:\…\Apollo_Test-2.air is invalid: This application requires a version of the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) which is no longer supported. Please contact the application author for an updated version.)." Is anyone else getting this?

  5. So… no update… any way we can get the alpha build of apollo?

  6. The update is coming, I promise. It’s a very large one, and will come with a beta apollo build.

  7. I tried out the new interface and it seems to improve on some things. Is it using the clientside CPU via flash to process database requests/searches instead of the server to reduce bandwidth consumption and speed up operation? If so, good approach. However, it struck me as a big hassle to actually save an image– you had to Copy and paste the ‘content URL’ to a new tab manually to save out an image. Also, images didn’t display at native size by default, and the whole thing seemed to respond very slowly. I’m not sure if this is typical bloated Macromedia software or what, but I hope it isn’t normal to wait 20+ seconds for a search to complete, or for it to refuse to search anymore after a minute or two of use and need to be closed/reopened. Hopefully these problems can be corrected? :)

I hope this project isn’t dead, as I have not seen one working danbooru-based site available for well .. over 6 months. They appear for a moment and then die immediately…

    Good luck.

  8. MrNoBS: Don’t worry, things are far from being dead. I assure you that there has been a lot of development going on, however due to time constraints I haven’t been able to release intermediate builds. There will be plenty of improvements (including built in post saving) when the first alpha build is released.

  10. Please tell me the development is still active. Going months without any announcements makes me nervous.

  11. Magus,

Nick moved to Japan a few days ago and has stated that he will resume major development once he’s got things in order over there. I also believe that he is using some of his current spare time for the occasional bit of coding.

I, too, am waiting for the update, but the planned features make the wait worthwhile many times over. We’ve got a saying in Sweden that goes “He who waits for something good never waits too long.”

  12. We have a dutch saying that goes:

Wait with a J, and everything will be ok ^^

Of course a J and an updated sagubooru would rule better…

  13. Just ran out of J’s, though…

Could anyone at least summarize what we can expect of the new version?

    Very curious about it.

  14. Any information about the new version? It has been a while and it seems nothing has truly changed.
